Iceland as a heat island
نویسندگان
چکیده
[1] Iceland is a strong localized source of non-eruptive volcanic warming and cooling. Temperature trend maps show that this phenomenon is localized to an area of about twice that of Iceland. With altitude the area remains constant but the phenomenon weakens and changes sign upon passing through the tropopause. The effect’s magnitude implies a large positive feedback, according to a conventional climate forcing estimate. This phenomenon is unique in that it is not observed for the other major volcanic islands. Citation: Douglass, D. H., V. Patel, and R. S. Knox (2005), Iceland as a heat island, Geophys. Res. Geothermal Energy in Iceland
Due to Iceland’s location on the Mid-Atlantic ridge, the island is provided with a great amount of geothermal energy. Hence, Iceland is well on the way to becoming completely independent of fossil fuels. Whereas high-temperature areas are mainly used for electricity generation, the more frequent low-temperature areas are utilized for direct application like space heating, bathing and greenhouse...
متن کاملThe Investigation of Variability of Heat Island Hazard According to Land Use and Land Cover Changesin Esfahan
Abstract Urban heat island (UHI) is one of the environmental phenomenon which has made difficult environmental conditions for citizen. This study aims to evaluate the spatial and locational variability of Esfahan urban heat island according to the role of land use. Thus an area about 190.2 square kilometers (km2) in Esfahan, as the microclimate, was studied. In order to analyze the relations...
متن کاملPrimitive off-rift basalts from Iceland and Jan Mayen: Os-isotopic evidence for a mantle source containing enriched subcontinental lithosphere
New measurements of Os, He, Sr and Nd isotopes, along with major and trace elements, are presented for basalts from the three volcanic flank zones in Iceland and from Jan Mayen Island. The Os/Os ratios in lavas with <30 ppt Os (n = 4) are elevated compared to ratios in coexisting olivine and appear to be contaminated at a shallow level. The Os/Os ratios in the remaining lavas with >30 ppt Os (n...

The term urban heat island (UHI), described the phenomenon of climate change in urban areas compared with surrounding rural areas. UHI effects include: increasing in energy and water consumption, air pollution expansion and interfering in thermal comfort. Surface urban heat island (SUHI) contains patterns of land surface temperature (LST) in urban areas that has interaction with UHI in urban ca...
